Lake City Farm House

An iconic farmhouse with modern sensibilities

From across the field, this white farmhouse looks timeless, tall and proud, a graceful nod to this country’s past.

Yet this charming farmhouse was built using a thermal mass foundation and structural insulated panel (SIP) walls and roof to create an energy efficient shell. The house was designed for LEED certification, so design and material choices both inside and out were carefully selected with sustainability in mind.

The details of the house draw from the outbuildings on a typical farm: a cupola, galvanized steel components, exposed structure and a corn crib stair. The cupola centers over the stair, creating a well of circulation for people, light and air. This new farmhouse, designed with rural common sense, global responsibility and Midwestern style, breathes new life into an old farmstead.
